There’s been a lot of hurrah over F4’s big reunion, which took place at the Jiangsu TV 1001 Night Festival tonight.

The night started off well enough as Vanness Wu took the red carpet, looking every bit the star. Fans waited with bated breath to catch Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, and Ken Chu, but were woefully disappointed. The TV station teased that the quartet would be performing two songs, ‘Meteor Rain’ and ‘Di Yi Shi Jian’. When the time came for their performance, those at the venue were joined by hundreds of thousands of fans all over the world via live stream, only to notice that something wasn’t quite right.

“Is it just me, or does everyone apart from Vanness look a bit 2D?” one netizen wrote. Although F4’s performance was nothing short of perfect, others couldn’t help but wonder if the other three members were actually present at the venue.

A photo posted by one of the audience members soon revealed the truth: Vanness was the only person who was physically present, while Jerry, Vic and Ken were CGI-ed in.

“I canceled all my plans for this?” one netizen wrote. “Isn’t this false advertising? They called it a reunion, but how is it a reunion if the other three were edited in? They were probably having dinner while Vanness was standing alone on that huge stage!”

Others reasoned that it was likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic which made things hard for F3 to make their way to the mainland. One disappointed but very optimistic netizen summed the entire experience with: “At least I know they don’t hate each other. Maybe one day, when the pandemic is over, we can have them stand on the same stage at the same time to sing for us again.”
