5 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore, with 3 imported cases and 2 in foreign worker dorms

SINGAPORE — Singapore confirmed five new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday (Oct 25), none of which were in the community.

There were three imported cases, who had all been placed on stay-home notice upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

The other two cases were locally transmitted; both reside in foreign worker dormitories.

Only one of the five new cases had symptoms: A foreign worker staying in a dormitory. The other foreign worker was detected through rostered routine testing.

Of the three imported cases, one is a Singapore permanent resident who returned from the United Kingdom while another is a dependant’s pass holder who arrived from the United Arab Emirates.

The remaining case is a short-term visit pass holder who arrived from Indonesia. She was allowed entry into Singapore to visit her child who is a Singapore permanent resident.

Singapore's total tally of infections now stands at 57,970.

MOH said that overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from five cases in the week before to two in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has remained stable at two cases a week in the past fortnight.

Fourteen more Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, bringing the total who have fully recovered to 57,858.

There are currently 51 patients who are still in hospital, most of whom are in stable or improving condition, and none is in the intensive care unit.

Another 33 with mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive, are isolated at community facilities.

Twenty-eight people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.

MOH has also closed the cluster at North Coast Lodge as there have been no cases linked to it for the past two incubation periods.
